I'm sorry Furet, public opinion may have been very important in the years before the Revolution....that is not to say you can justify your use of linguistical polyfillers because it relates to the word "opinion", your weighty tombe is much better without it.
No History student studying the work of Alexis de Tocqueville for their prelims will find that fact useful or indeed care.
I would probably have read more of your work if you had restrained yourself here and kept that fact to yourself. Or had slipped it into a footnote. Those things at the bottom of the page I don't read for reasons (see above)
