I've got a great idea for a radio show. How do I get it on air? The process begins with what we call a 'pitch,' which outlines what the show will be and how it will work. For tips and advice on how to write a successful pitch, go to pitches expained. Once you’re ready to put your show to us, fill in a pitch form. If we like it, we'll start working with you to get the show on air.
I don't really have a solid idea for a show. Can I still be on the air? Sure! There are two ways to do this: one, we can add you to our roster of 'floating presenters,' who do guest spots, interviews, and so on; and two, you could apply to be a newscaster. For the former, drop an email to speech@oxideradio.co.uk explaining what kind of thing you'd like to do; for the latter, email news[at]oxideradio.co.uk. You can do both if you like.
Can I get involved in deciding what music the station plays? Yes. While most of our shows pick their music themselves, we do maintain 'The Oxide Playlist' – playlists full of what's hot to fill in the off-hours and for some shows to draw from. If you're interested in helping us sort through the endless promo CDs we get sent and building those playlists, email music[at]oxideradio.co.uk stating that you'd like to join the playlisting team.
Can I help out with organizing everybody and just making sure the station runs smoothly? Absolutely! It sounds like you might be well suited to a position as a producer. A producer is the 'boss' of one or more shows, making sure that people are in the right place at the right time, that recording sessions are booked, and so on. As a full producer you'd be responsible for making sure that a show happens on time, so it's not something to take too lightly, though we could offer assistant producer roles as well. If you're interested, email stationmanager[at]oxideradio.co.uk.
I'm interested in working on the station from a technical point of view. From this year, the station is much more computer-oriented, so it's a great time to get involved. You'll need a firm interest in tinkering with things, and in figuring out how something is supposed to work (possibly even - *gasp* - reading the manual). Experience with programming or Linux is a huge plus, too, though it's not a requirement. If it sounds like something you'd like to get involved in, or if you'd simply like to know more about it, email technical[at]oxideradio.co.uk. If you’re interested in helping maintain our snazzy new website, email webmaster[at]oxideradio.co.uk.
How can I get involved in promoting Oxide? Oxide needs a strong team of people seeking advertising and sponsorship, as well as a team working on getting as many listeners as possible for our shows. Working on the commercial side is great experience for any budding businesspeople out there and needs a lot of creativity – if you’re interested, email promotions[at]oxideradio.co.uk.
