In the brief period while this is still available at the Odeon on George Street, I offer our first week review of Sherlock Holmes. Tom Rene came in to the studio to discuss everything from Guy Ritchie's love of bare-knuckle boxing to the film's homoerotic subtext (or what we've labelled 'supertext' because it's not really 'below' anything when you use it as a plot device).
It's a great film if you love CGI London, slightly dodgy accents (Downey Jnr does English while Canadian Rachel McAdams, as the one who got away, Irene Adler, does American), and Mark Strong doing best to fulfill every conspiracy theorist's wet dream as the quasi-fascist, Satanic magic-making, Masonic lodge-loving baddie - all of which I do. Downey Jnr told Empire Magazine if he could only play Tony 'Ironman' Stark and Ritchie's Sherlock Holmes for the rest of his career he'd die happy. I think I agree with him.
